ZEN

Zen'sessions are the result of devious collaborations between Ricardo Da Silva (audio & video elements) and Mathias Clivaz (graphic & web design).

Position: the web is a multi-media artistic tool with its conditions of possibility (technical and human) that exist to be explored and dis/re/organized.

SOME STROBOSCOPIC IMAGE AND SOUND PROCESSING COULD BE HARMFUL TO YOU

If that's ok, please go full screen
and MEDITATE THIS.

The first session was carried out in 2006, between Lausanne and Berlin: #1. Sound tweaks, modified gifs from found footage and redundant html tables.

The second one we began in late December 2009 and remains unfinished: #2. It made abusive use of the widely deprecated 'marquee' tag, which may result in hazardous displays depending on the browser you use (Chrome's display is smoother as of 2024).

In 2013, the #3 ventured into javascript animation, along with gifs, lots of divs, opacities... Note that the animations (with SetTimeOut in js) are chronometric and will start at the opening of the page, so please click to play the audio as soon as you come in.

Zen session #4 was made in 2016, the result of modular graphic experiments with gifs from around the web, and a sound+voice jam we recorded in 2014 (text by Tristan Tzara, in L'homme approximatif). Here the user plays an active role by moving the cursor around, digging through moving layers. It was used for VJing psy-trance live sets with a panoply of prearranged arrays of gifs and it was a lot of fun!

The webdesign was remastered early 2024 for a better cross-browser experience. In the past we also made use of Adobe Flash plug-ins, which is obsolete since 2020... they were replaced with javascript, html, css and/or gifs where it was possible.
